Death Valley and Alabama Hills Landscape Photography Workshop

Join award-winning photographer, Paul Dileanis, for a 5-day workshop in the Alabama Hills and Death Valley National Park. The workshop will concentrate on developing techniques for visualizing, capturing, and processing landscape photography images. This workshop is open to all skill levels and is designed to help you expand your creative eye.

Days 1 and 2 we will spend photographing the incredible Alabama Hills. Nestled beneath the dramatic eastern scarp of the Sierra Nevada the Alabama Hills are a wonderland of granite boulders and arches that provide a feast for the photographer's lens.

Day 3 we will transit from Lone Pine to Death Valley. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to photograph semi-ghost towns such as Keeler or Darwin, petroglyphs, and whatever creative challenges we find along the way.

Days 4 and 5 will be spent in Death Valley. Few places on earth are as inspiring to a photographer as Death Valley.  The convergence of color, texture, and light transform the barren landscape into a rich palette of limitless photographic possibilities.

What you will learn:

Time will be spent discussing photographic techniques, exposure, and the use of filters. There will be opportunities throughout the day for one-on-one mentoring to help you advance your photography. In addition to refining photographic skills, there will be an emphasis on improving composition and learning to read the natural landscape with the goal of creating images that reflect your own personal photographic style.

Processing and Critique Sessions

The focus of this workshop is to get out and take photographs. Processing and critique sessions will be tailored to the group and scheduled as time permits. This flexibility will allow us to accommodate changes in the weather or lighting conditions and maximize field time.

Fitness Level

Most of the locations we photograph will be close to parking. However, be prepared to walk up to 2 miles daily carrying your equipment on moderate rolling terrain. This workshop is not physically demanding, but your fitness ensures a more rewarding photographic experience. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Getting to the workshop

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workshop. Students need to provide their own transportation during the workshop. We will be carpooling whenever possible.

Lodging and meals
